JOHN BURRELL
John Burrell, President and CEO of High Adventure Company and High Adventure Safaris, has been an avid outdoorsman since his childhood in Anderson County, Tennessee. As one of the most respected professionals in the outdoor industry, John has 30 years of experience managing, developing, and marketing some of the world’s top sporting destinations.
His well-storied career includes forming a successful international outfitting firm for outdoor powerhouse Mossy Oak/Haas Outdoors and being named the youngest partner in their recreational real estate firm, Mossy Oak Properties. It also includes being named the lead guide to help legendary clothing manufacturer, Eddie Bauer design and test their Sport Shop apparel. This well-conceived product line has the distinction of winning more awards than any of its kind.
John’s commitment to quality has led to other accolades as well. In addition to winning the Garden & Gun Best of the Sporting South Award, High Adventure Company is the only six-time recipient of the Sporting Classics Award of Excellence.
HAC properties have been featured in Sporting Classics and Shooting Sportsman, The New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler, Garden & Gun, Men’s Journal, and Southern Bride magazine as well as numerous outdoor industry television shows.
John’s on-camera presence is equally impressive. He co-hosted the popular Emmy nominated television series, Brush Country Monsters on the Pursuit Channel and he has been regularly featured as an international outfitting expert on ESPN’s Under Wild Skies and Swarovski Optik Quest.
A true adventurer, John has guided clients all over the world, including more than 30 African safaris and at least that many trips to destinations throughout South America. He takes pride in creating extraordinary experiences for all his clients and in building relationships that last a lifetime.
Thanks to John’s well-deserved reputation as a sportsman and a conservation advocate, his company has been entrusted with some of the most unique environments in the world including the mouth of the Mississippi River, an entire Hawaiian island, and one of the premier river systems in Patagonia, Argentina.
John’s industry leadership also extends to creating a talent pipeline for sporting industry leaders of the future, having been approached by Auburn University to help create their wildlife enterprise management program (which began accepting students earlier this year). The program is one of only two of its kind in the country. In addition to his role in developing the curriculum and serving as a guest lecturer, John has promised to provide real-world learning opportunities for students through HAC internships.
